Integrating Jira with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange

Hello all,

I was wondering a couple different things about integration directly between Jira and Outlook along with Exchange.

First off, is there an e-mail plug-in for Jira, and if so, can that e-mail integrate with Microsoft Exchange and Outlook?

I tried integrating Outlook and the Jira-Calendar plug-in. The best I could do was to export the calendar on Jira, then import that file into Outlook. I was wanting something where you could go back and forth entering into both calendars (Jira calendar and Outlook calendar) and they would automatically update each other. Is this possible?

Last I was wanting to integrate Outlook tasks with something in Jira, but I don't know what to compare Outlook tasks to. I might just integrate it with a custom field, but I was also thinking that maybe Jira components is the equivalent of Outlook tasks??? Anyways, how would I integrate the Outlook tasks with maybe a custom field on the issues form?

Thanks a million everyone,

Benjamin

I've not seen any integration with Outlook/Exchange, beyond the calendar stuff you've already mentioned. You can do some comminucation via email - notifications are very useful, but there's also the incoming email handlers http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/latest/issue_creation_email.html but it's not integration in the sense you mean.

Actually, I'd say Jira Issues are more like tasks - Jira is an issue tracker, and an issue usually means "we need to do something about this", which sounds very much like a "task" to me. Components are more like "things these issues have in common, or things they affect"

I think you're right about the custom field, but I'm not sure how you would integrate it with the mailbox (I'm mostly a Unix/OpenVMS bod, and I only know the basics of the Java APIs)

Thanks a ton, your answer is very helpful. I would however like to know if Jira custom fields can be integrated with anything in Outlook, espcecially Outlook tasks?

I very much appreciate the reply though and the answers.
